Characteristic of that period and its style is the rebirth of a zest for life, of optimism and confidence - a 'new renaissance'. Ludek Marold (1865 - 1898) is one of the best-known Bohemian painters. He was not only responsible for the artistic design of the building, he also lived on the top floor until 1898. His most famous work, the remarkable panorama 'The Battle of Lipany', can also be seen in Prague in Petrin Labyrinth. The historically accurate restoration of the original structure and the gentle weave of modern elements generate an unequalled ambience. The breakfast is excellent as is the dinner menu - although it can be pricey, the food is well prepared and served by attentive staff. There are also a few restaurants near the hotel if you prefer to eat out. The staff are great - friendly, professional and helpful - although watch out for the consierge fee if you get them to book you tickets. A great place to stay, away from the tourist crowds.
