Spanny Twin Falls
The falls are located in the forested interior, south of the little village of Bells, on the Canefield-Melville Hall road. To get to the first fall (60 ft. high) it is a relatively easy 15 minute stroll through agricultural lands. Getting to the second falls is a little bit more difficult since you need to hike up a very steep but short hill into a river with some slippery rocks. This second fall is about 70 feet high and offers a deeper pool where you can have a refreshing swim.
The Trafalgar Falls are easily accessible and one of Dominica's main tourist attractions, especially for cruise ship visitors. The falls are located on the eastern edge of Morne Trois Pitons National Park, about a 20 minute drive away from Roseau. There is a well laid out trail (600m) from the visitors centre at the entrance to the two falls. There are actually two falls (the father and the mother) roughly 125 feet high. There is wooden platform perfect for viewing and taking photos of the falls. If you are in good shape you can continue from the platform and climb over the slippery rocks to reach the pool of the base for a nice refreshing swim.
Brandy falls is located close to Portsmouth in the northern part of the island. A guide is recommended because there is no marked trail to the falls themselves. There is no entrance fee and it is always accessible. Starting at Brandy Manor Guesthouse, where you can purchase refreshments. The road section can be accessed with a 4-wheel drive vehicle, but you will have to hike into the rain forest to get to the falls themselves. It is a 2 hour hike along both undeveloped roads and hiking trails along the river. The riverbed is strewn with slippery boulders and care must be taken that you do not slip and injure yourself. The falls are more like a cascade, but are very tall and steep. There is no pool at the base of the falls, but you can stand under the cool water. There are also a few pools where you can relax in the water.
