Govan Mbeki Avenue is the main street running through the City Centre of Port Elizabeth. Beginning at Market Square, it runs North, parallel to the coast. The first section, up to Donkin Street, has been developed into a pedestrian Promenade, with permanent lock-up goods lockers for vendors and covered roof areas, to provide shade and shelter in the centre of the street. It includes Market Square, with many historic buildings. The next section, between Donkin Street and Russell Road is due for completion towards the middle of 2008. |
