[Bencarra, 21/04/2011] The Athenaeum is typical of 100s of seaside B&B's from the outside and untypical of 99% of them from the inside. The rooms are beautifully clean and comfortable and not in the least bit fussy. Breakfast was superb - lots of it and lots of choice with everything cooked to order and delivered on hot plates with scarcely a grease spot in sight. The bed was comfortable, the location quiet, the hosts welcoming, knowledgable and unobstrusive. They were there if needed but not otherwise. I would highly recommend this Hotel / B&B to anyone.
[birth24, 29/03/2011] what a great find . clean, cosy , close to all amenaties, staff helpful and friendly. Best breakfast in a long time . what a find
[bbguest, 29/03/2011] A colleague and I stayed at the Athenaeum Lodge during a business trip to Plymouth in March 2011. Jane and David were very welcoming even if we arrived late in the evening because of the ferryboat. They friendly offered up suggestions on places to eat and drink, and did not hesitate to explain us how to go to our meeting on the following day. They were always ready to help us. Clean rooms (beds made daily), good continental and English breakfasts, very quiet and comfortable hotel.
Moreover, the place is ideally located for the City centre (10-15 minutes walking), the Barbican (10 min) and the

[mariecole, 21/03/2011] My apologies to Geoff and Judy for not posting this sooner like I said I would. My husband and I have spent a very enjoyable long weekend at the Cassandra Guest house during the month of December. After a long drive down the owners Geoff and Judy are lovely friendly helpful people who made us feel very welcome. To be honest parking isn’t great however we were able to park at the back of the guest house which made things easier. Lets be truthful we booked a room in a Guest House not the Ritz so I was very pleased with the choice that we had made. The room that we were given was very well presen

[Yanevj, 27/10/2010] We recently stayed at the Duke of Cornwall as we were attending a wedding reception held at the hotel. The reception, rooms, facilities and staff were all fantastic. The evening meal that we had on the Thursday was also thoroughly enjoyable. Recommend the Sea bass! We would stay again if we ever returned to Plymouth.

[carolync521, 20/07/2010] We go down to Moorlands twice a year to see our friends and love the place, it's very welcoming and friendly and it's also dog friendly too. It's like going to see friends rather than spend time in a hotel, and the restruant food is amazing pub prices are also good. The surrounding area is georgous on the Moors.
[DaveandPauline, 12/06/2010] We have stayed at the Athenaeum Lodge for a number of years, originally taking my wife's wheelchair bound Mum. We have always found Jane and David to be the best of owners, always willing to help without being intrusive. They always found a groundfloor room for Mum and even secure storage for my bike. The breakfasts are perfection and the standard of cleanliness in the rooms and throughout the whole guest house can't be faulted. It's always a genuine pleasure to see Jane and David and we hope to be able to return for many years to come.
[jcl70, 14/05/2010] My wife and I stayed at the Athenaeum Lodge during a trip to the UK in April. We wanted to get out of London for a couple days and being from the US decided to head for Plymouth and the Mayflower steps!
We wanted to stay somewhere unlike any place we could find at home and decided on the Athenaeum lodge after searching the web. The place was great and in the perfect location. Easy walking distance from the Barbican and the Mayflower steps, lots of little restaurants and a great pub nearby. David and Jane (the owners) were the perfect hosts and offered up suggestions on places to eat, drink an

[whiskypep, 18/04/2010] Come here to visit friends and always stay at the this guest house. Its a nice and comfortable place and David and Jane are the perfect hosts. Brilliant breakfasts, try the poached eggs as they are really good. The guesthouse is in a good location with easy access to the shops and the Barbican. Will stay here next time as it has everything we want.
[MikeFuller, 16/04/2010] We stayed at the Athenaeum July 2009 for 4 days and found it really homely and are thinking of going back. It was very homely, clean and tidy. Breakfast was excellent. Easy walk to lots of lovely restaurants and the Hoe. Good place to stay to visit The Eden Project. David and Jane were excellent hosts. Mike / Pauline
[angiemb82, 16/04/2010] I have stayed at the Lodge around 4 times over the last few years on my own and with family, most recently over Easter with my partner.
Jane, David & the team are very welcoming, always happy to assist or suggest ideas to make your stay in Plymouth special. The rooms are extremely clean, the beds made daily and the breakfasts are brilliant!
Located yards from Plymouth Hoe and a 5 min walk to both the Elizabethan barbican and the main shopping area on Royal Parade, the best location around.
They also offer a daily parking permit which is essential in Plymouth as parking is notorious

[jackboorman, 12/04/2010] Ideally located for both the City centre and the Hoe, we were made to feel very welcome on arrival, which was lovely as we had a three year old in tow. Thankfully the owners were extremely comfortable with Children which just added to the enjoyment. I would highly reccommend this hotel to anyone wishing for a relaxing stay in Plymouth. Thank you very much.
[helen18, 10/04/2010] Our daughter started at Plymouth Uni in Sept 2009 so we have stayed at the Athenaeum on numerous occasions since the application process started. Would not consider staying anywhere else now. Nothing is too much trouble and Jane and David are always there to welcome you with a smile. Rooms and facilities are excellent.
[johnfitzpatrick, 06/04/2010] Friendly atmosphere, quiet road, good access to Plymouth Hoe, Barbican and city centre. The room was a double ensuite, value for money with a comfortable bed and plenty of space for a small child's inflatable bed without any extra charge. The ensuite was clean and presentable. Breakfast was excellent. Child friendly owners and and enjoyable stay.
[PhylNick131, 05/04/2010] We have had to say in central Plymouth many times over recent years and we have tried lots of different hotels and B & B. This is by far the best. Its location, its friendly owners and the best breakfast possible. If you need a very spotless, comfortable B & B near to the centre of everything dont hesitate to try the Athenaeum Lodge. We have now stayed 4 times and have never been disappointed.

[Drewed, 23/03/2010] We were luck enough to stay at the Duke of Cornwall while recently taking a tour of the south west. Admittedly we have stayed here before during the 90’s, but we were interested to see how this old Plymouth Victorian building had changed since our last visit. We found the staff to be friendly and greeted us in a way that made us feel very welcome.
The hotel itself has obviously been tastefully redecorated over the years but we were please to see that the building still retained some of its original charm. The menu and food has certainly improved, a truly first class supper and breakfast! The
