According to Darwin Porter, the Plaza Athénée is an "1889 Art Nouveau marvel" and a "landmark of discretion and style".
There are "superbly decorated subdivisions within the hotel". Inside you will find the Bar Montaigne with its "audaciously designed counter tops... ...crafted from crystal that's lit from beneath". The Salon Gobelins adorned with "tapestries against rich panelling" and the "richly panelled and grand" Salon Marie Antoinette are two public rooms that "add to the ambiance of this lavish hotel".
An interior courtyard "draped with vines and dotted with geraniums", is described as being "calm" and "quiet". The guest rooms are said to have "ample closet space" and "large tiled bathrooms" containing double basins and separate baths and showers. The Eiffel Tower can be seen from some rooms overlooking avenue Montaigne.
This hotel is rated as exceptional by Frommers as indicated by the authors three star rating.
