When you walking on the hill Montmartre, you have to climb up steep
staircases and streets to see the magnificent Basilica Sacre Coeur. This is the second highest viewpoint after the Eiffel Tower of Paris.
The beautiful white domed Basilica of the Sacre Coeur was built for 36 years to honour the French victims of the 1871 Franco Prussian War. The style is Romano Byzantine and the architect is Paul Abadie. In this church we can see one of the worlds largest mosaics, depicting Christ with outstretched arms. The author of these wonderful creatures is Luc Olivier Merson. At the central entrance is surmounted two bronze equestrian statues of King Saint Louis ІX and Joan of Arc. The bell tower contains one of the heaviest bells in the world. Sounds of the great organ and stain-glass windows make you fall at unique atmosphere inside the church. If you climb up to the dome on a sunny day, you will have a great view. At the rear of the grounds is a contemplative garden and fountain. Often there you can watch the outdoor theatre or listen the citizen musicians who playing a guitar, accordion or tarabuka.
One wonderful place...
