The restaurant is located below the road through Paleokastritsa, 15 steps lead down to the dining area, luckily there is a menu located at the entrance which saves you the trip down if you do not fancy anything. Not sure but I think there was a ramp down to the restaurant on the other side from the steps.
Nereids is surrounded by well kept gardens with waterfalls and wishing wells. Miniature Greek houses are also amongst the gardens and when it becomes dark the lighting makes it all come to life.
The main dining area al fresco has the tables fairly spaced out and as soon as you enter a waiter will greet you and guide you to a table that is free and ask if it is OK. Joint on to this area is an outside covered area for those unwanted wet day/nights but still with the feeling of eating in the open air. A small interior dining area is available for cold nights which luckily we did not have.
Diners were a mix of foreigners with quite a few Greeks which for me is always a good thing.
Friendly and very helpful English speaking Greek waiters will talk you through the menu if your unsure what to eat and recommend some items if you can not make your mind up.
We dined here on a couple of nights and each time the restaurant was busy, so we expected a fairly long wait between courses but this does not bother us as we enjoy to chill with a carafe of red wine or Retsina.
The starters came promptly as they were mainly cold starters aubergine salad, tzatziki and fried courgettes, all well presented and very tasty.
Surprisingly the main courses came not long after the starters were cleared. Beef stifado one of the best I have ever tasted, chicken souvlaki for the wife she said was very tasty as the chicken had been marinated in something and the peppers and onion were lovely char grilled.
The portions are a good size so we declined a sweet, some of the desserts we saw were large and looked very tasty.
As most people had finished their meals the staff put on a Greek show for the customers. This involved dancing on a table which was on fire, the head waiter holding a chair and two tables stacked up in he's mouth with no hands amazing. A better show than some of the Greek nights I have paid to go and see.
Everything about the restaurant is excellent from the surroundings, the comfy seating, service and the quality of the food. You would expect to pay more for all of this but it was about the same price as all the other restaurants in the area.
Would recommend the Nereids for a top night out.
