Monastery with a view
Paleokastritsa is located on the west side of Corfu and the monastery is up a fairly steep snaking tarmac road, hard going if your very unfit. Theotokos Monastery dates from the 13th century and is also known as the Paleokastritsa Monastery. It is located above the main beach of Paleokastritsa surrounded by conifers. People entering the Monastery should be dressed appropriately with shoulders and legs covered up. Some garments for covering areas of exposed flesh are provided at the entrance. Most parts of the Monastery are accessible and some rooms contain signs explaining about the Monastery and the monks. There is a gift shop and a museum are inside the Monastery. |
