Thomas Sutcliffe experienced the "most seamlessly delicious meal" he'd eaten all yaer when he visited Raymond Blanc's restaurant at Le Manoir aux Quat'Saison. The cooking was "pretty classic" in style and reflected the "heartland territory of impeccable sourcing and perfect technique" He and his wife booked in for the night and admired the hotel's attention to detail when checking the fruit bowl in which the pear "as à point as a pear can be" was found to have a "blob of red sealing wax " on the stalk to prevent it over-ripening. Jan Moir was not very happy when the restaurant seated her and her dinner partner in the conservatory of the restaurant where she lacked the "privacy to saw into a carrot without knocking someone's eye out". The conservatory is "tacked on like a nasty suburban blister". The restaurant's success has led to "much expansion" in order to accomodate the "gourmet operation" that provides meals for "78,000 people every year" but she didn't appreciate being put in the conservatory where she and four other tables clung to the perimeter "like doomed sailors in a life raft".
