[more]Christ Church Cathedral is located on the site where an 8th-century convent church was sited. It had developed into the 12th-century Augustinian priory of St Frideswide and subsequently became a pilgrimage site. Currently it serves not only as the chapel of Christ Church College, but is the cathedral for the diocese of Oxford and features late-Norman architecture with botanical-type windows.
The cathedral has housed a choir since 1526 and, besides presenting regular concerts, the current choir has made a number of recordings and tours. It consists of two organists, six lay clerks, six academical clerks and sixteen boys. Daily choir practice is at 16h45 and then the cathedral is closed to the public. Opening hours are at 09h00 except on Sundays when it is at 13h00 and the admission tariff for adults is £4.90
