    Theatre Royal (24.06.2007 20:19)
Situated in the centre of Newcastle, the Theatre Royal is one of those landmark buildings in the city great for helping people find their way if you direct them from the theatre. Having spent many evenings at a range of productions, from Shakespeare to The Gruffalo, I have fond memories of this quite magnificent building. Address and other contact 100 Grey Street Newcastle upon Tyne [more...]

Discover at the Discovery (18.06.2007 16:42)
Discovery museum One of the great things about this museum, is that entrance is free. None of this paying a fortune when you step inside, only to find that it may not quite live up to your expectations. Being a free attraction, I have visited it on several occasions, usually taking school parties. Address and contact information: Blandford square, Newcastle upon Tyne. NE1 4JA Tel: [more...]

    String or spaghetti? (14.06.2007 13:14)
We sometimes visit this restaurant for Sunday lunch as it's nice and handy if we want to jump on the Metro and go somewhere afterwards and little lady enjoys it. WHERE IS IT? The restaurant is on Osborne Road, a busy road in Jesmond, so to get to the restaurant, you have to find somewhere on one of the side streets to park (find a place which isn't residents only). THE RESTAURANT I [more...]

Gibside Chapel and grounds (07.06.2007 09:41)
Another National Trust property and one which I visit quite often because this is really close to my house...about 5 minutes in the car. WHAT TO SEE... There's plenty to see and do if you enjoy country estates. There is a chapel which was built in the mid 1700s as a mausoleum for George Bowes, and this was apparantly in the Palladium style. If this means lots of pillars and something quite [more...]

    A Northern welcome (05.06.2007 19:21)
Angel of the North Heralding as I do from Newcastle, and having always thought of this as my home town regardless of where I have lived, I watched the erection of this structure with interest. Its completion in 1998 heralded much interest and it has recently been voted fifth modern wonder of Britain. Built on a panoramic site on a hilltop, the angel is, to me, a symbol of coming home. Any food for us? (04.06.2007 16:07)
New Year Eve usually finds us indulging in some pre midnight food, and this (last) year found us at one of Newcastle's Japanese restaurants, located, strangely enough, in Chinatown. When we first entered the restaurant, the thing which primarily struck me was the fact that there were no seasonal decorations. However, we could cope with that, and initial impressions were good. There is an [more...]

    Pizza anyone? (03.06.2007 18:04)
On a recent foray into Newcastle city centre with himself and young daughter, we decided to try out this place, it being one of those restaurants which I have noticed but never been inside. It is situated at the bottom of Dean Street, right in the centre of Newcastle, and near the quayside, so because of its prominant position, will obviously get a lot of passing trade. It's actually hard to [more...]
