St Paul's Church - Jarrow, United Kingdom
Small church, big history (10.05.2008 20:48)
St Paul's Church On a recent visit to Bedes World in Jarrow, we also went to St Pauls church, which is a short walk through a park from Bedes World. Visitors wanting to visit the church should follow signs for Bedes World, and parking is available either just outside the church or in Bedes World The church is actually the parish church of Jarrow, and so sometimes there are services on, but when [more...]

Great atmosphere and food (15.03.2008 18:17)
El Torrero Situated on a pedestrian only road on the way downwards towards Newcastles quayside, this restaurant is a handy place to eat for anyone wanting to go on to sample the delights(??) of Newcastles night life. THE RESTAURANT The restaurant is actually quite easy to miss, since there are no bright lights heralding its existence, and since the road its situated on is winding and [more...]

    Love the food! (26.02.2008 21:01)
One of our favourite restaurants, this (I think) opened only a couple of years ago, but we have already been several times, and found it excellent whether going as a couple, for a family meal, or with a group of friends. Where is it? Located on Stowell street, in the heart of Newcastle's China Town, this is easily recognisable because it is the first restaurant you come to when driving [more...]

Slug and Lettuce - Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom
Quieter than along the road (20.02.2008 11:30)
Slug and Lettuce Situated on Newcastles quayside, and opposite the Sage, this is ideal for lunchtime meals and evening drinks. BAR / RESTAURANT The restaurant / bar is accessed via some stone steps, so not really possible for disabled guests unless I have missed some other opening. Once inside, there are plenty of wooden tables and chairs dotted randomly about the eating area, as well [more...]

All under one roof! (19.02.2008 13:25)
Metro Centre Metro Centre is my corner shop and as such, the place I tend to do most of my shopping. Opened more than 20 years ago, it is heralded as Europes biggest shopping centre, and it does seem to be growing all of the time, with a new red area added a couple of years ago. WHERE IS IT? The Metro Centre is in Gateshead, 3 miles south of Newcastle upon Tyne, and is well signposted [more...]

Friendly service and good food (17.02.2008 22:41)
Palace Garden Located at the very end of Sowell Street, in the heart of Newcastles Chinatown, this restaurant has been here for years-I remember going here when I was lots younger. It is now the Chinese restaurant favoured by Little Miss- something to do with bridges and fish I think! In fact when we were going into the restaurant for Chinese new Year, some children walking along the road were [more...]

    Shop then eat (12.02.2008 20:08)
The Skiff This is a great place if you have been shopping in the Metro centre and just can NOT be bothered to go home and cook. Alternatively, use it as we have been using it- when there is just no way you can get to your kitchen because of building work. GETTING THERE The pub / restaurant is actually very close to the Metro Centre and if you follow the obvious landmarks of TGI Fridays [more...]

Pitcher and Piano - Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom
Worth it for the views (12.02.2008 18:40)
Pitcher and Piano Centrally located on Newcastles quayside, this is a place we go to frequently for either drinks in the evening or a weekend lunch. The large glass fronted building is situated right by the river next to the Millenium Bridge and opposite the Baltic contemporary Arts Museum. For this reason, it does tend to get very busy, especially in the summer months when there are people [more...]

    Eat in a smugglers' cave (10.02.2008 19:17)
Quite a famous place, situated as it is close to the Marsden rock, which unfortunately collapsed (in part) in 1996. In the 1700s, Jack the blaster came to live here, and apparantly supplied refreshments to smugglers. His successor excavated a ballroom out of the rock, and created a hotel here, and in 1898, Vaux and Sons took over the lease, building the lift in the 1930s, to bring visitors [more...]

    Queue for food (20.07.2007 22:18)
One place we do like to eat is Francescas, mainly because it has been there for years and it is within our "comfort zone", so it was to this little pizzeria that we adjourned a few evenings ago. It was way too wet to go walking around town looking for a place with a free table, and we were in need of some cosiness and food. Getting there: The restaurant is situated in Jesmond, about 10 [more...]
