My main objective to going to Crescent Lake National Wildlife Refuge was to photograph and video tape the courtship ritual of the Sharp Tailed Grouse which takes place during the month of April. I had tried earlier in the month but had been snowed out. Crescent Lake is some 350 miles give or take from my home and it is not a straight shot. After several hours of driving I got to a little town called Oshkosh, Nebraska. Oshkosh is 28 miles straight south of the refuge. The pavement stops a short distance outside of town except for two short strips, one on the refuge itself.[...]
