The author describes the journey to the Botanical Gardens as one where "views of the harbor yield to vistas of distant mountains" and states that it is considered to be "the richest (floral kingdom) in plant diversity, with some 8,500 species" . She describes passing "a flock of Mandela's Gold, all-yellow birds of paradise" which is a locally developed species and waxes lyrically about the "Cape's sweeps of yellow, crimson, pink, magenta and orange" which bloom even in Winter. In the author's opinion, the gardens have a "unique flora" and are "among the most beautiful" botanical gardens in the world. You will find "magnificent oaks" and "indigenous plants". There is also a fragrance garden and a sculpture garden. The "best" time to see the gardens are "between mid-August and mid-October", the author states. For visitors, there is "plenty of parking", as well as an "excellent souvenir shop" and a conservatory. Free guided walks are offered. The Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden shelters 8,000 plant species including a "giant baobab tree". Considered by Frommers to be "without a doubt" one of the world's "most beautiful gardens", it is set next to the Table Mountain nature reserve. Several options are proposed to discover the "themed walks". Either one can opt for an "audio guide", or else a guided tour, or even take a "golf cart tour". The park has two restaurant options, and some "summer sunset concerts" with some of the best African acts. Frommers rate the botanical gardens as exceptional.
