In 2002, Himself and I finally embarked on a long-planned weekend in New York City. Our brief itinerary called for one night with friends in Midtown Manhattan and one night in a hotel. It was our first trip to New York, and we were hoping for a hotel experience that would be truly special. Our choice, and it was a grand one in fact as well as name, was the Grand Hyatt. Located at Park Avenue and Grand Central Station in Midtown East, the ...

Bryant Park

Bryant Park

Bryant Park is situated a few blocks east of Times Square. It has had a colourful history was once a graveyard for the poor and a military excercise area during the civil war. It gained a reputation as a no-go area in the 1970s, but a major redevelopment took place and the park reopened in 1992. The park only covers a 4 acre plot and backs on to the New York City Public Library. There is also a lawn area where many office workers enjoy a picnic lunch during the hot weather. There are a number of restuarants and cafes with outside dining under the shade of the trees. Activities in Bryant Park include chess & backgammon and there is an outdoor reading room. Bryant Park is a WiFi Hot Spot, bringing the internet free to users. During winter there is a skating rink and this is free. There is a Carousel in the mid-park area on the 40th Street side which is open daily from 11:00am to 7:00pm.
