[DustDevil, 10/07/2007] Restored from ruins and set on a hillside overlooking the countryside, this hotel has character by the bucketload! A sprawling mass of terraces, ramparts, courtyards and gardens, which you are free to explore at leisure and after taking afternoon tea on the terrace in the sun, you will feel like you own the place. The staff are brilliant, even passing you hot water bottles to take back to your room as you leave the eclectic restuarant on chilly evenings and bringing breakfast tea to your door the next morning. The reviewer got lost in this "warren" of a hotel that "spreads" over ten layers and is as "confusing as an Escher sketch". The building was in "near ruins" but underwent a "sensitive, modest yet beautiful" restoration that's a "powerful example" of "good taste and moderation". The work took over ten years and the rooms reflect the "mindfulness of history". Some rooms have "jharokha" balconies and others have bathrooms "open to the skies". Located "a two hour drive from the capital", the hotel has long been a "premier leisure getaway" for residents of Delhi.
