The aroma's of Nabeul market.

[oldwasp, 15.07.2007] This trip was an organised excursion with Thomson holidays from our hotel in Hammamet. Nabeul is about 7 miles from Hammamet .Our coach dropped us outside the train station so if travelling independently you can come by train. The walk to the market was about 5 minutes up a straight road so not much chance of getting lost here.

Nabeul market used to be famous for its camal trading but now looking through the main gates into the market the tradesman have moved on from this and are now selling anything from spices to kids toys.
Tourists mingle with locals looking at the wares of the sellers. As soon as you stop they pounce from nowhere telling you the price and putting what ever you were looking at into your hand. If your not interested I found it best to just say no thankyou and walk away. If you are interested the fun starts. Haggaling is compulsory do not pay the asking price as you will be paying to much. When he says that is the lowest he will go start to walk away he will run after you and drop the price again. As you walk through the market the aroma's hit your senses from spices to freshly brewed coffee. Handmade pottery in bright colours of blue, red and yellow.
The market is along a winding street carpet shops, clothe shops and cafes are also along the market route. Everything begins to become repetitive after a while as in all markets.
The cafe's are cheap to get a snack and drink and these are the only places there are toilets.
Some beggars are about mainly children but they looked well fed and dressed.
Beware of pic pockets, a man tried to get into my wife's bag but we noticed before he got anything and he disappeared into the crowds. Later on we saw him again trying to get into another ladies bag he saw us and ran off.
