Declared a National Monument in 1973, the Green Point Lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse in South Africa, having been in operation since 12 April 1824. It is still functional and presently serves as headquarters to the Lighthouses Services, a division of the National Ports Authority. The venue can be rented for conferences and there is also a curio shop on the premises. Guided tours are available, showcasing the architecture and stonework of the lighthouse. |
