Description: The Humberhead Peatlands Nature Reserve covers an area of almost 3000 hectares and encompasses Thorne, Crowle, Hatfield and Goole Moors. The whole area is owned and managed by English Nature and represents the largest area of raised bog land in Britain.

The reserve is especially noted for its wildlife including many species of plants, insects and birds that are found at either their northern or southern extremities of their range. Nationally important rare breeding birds include Woodlark. Nightjar and Nightingale.

Access is free and the moors are always open but visitors must keep to the designated footpaths at all times. There are several different points of access. The nearest access point to Thorne Moors and the main Peatlands reserve is via Grange Lane in the village of Moorends.
