I travelled through Sangster (Montego) Airport about a year ago now and I thought it was a nice little airport.
We landed pretty late as we were flying with Air Jamaica from Heathrow and we'd been slightly delayed anyway and hadn't been due to arrive until around 11pm anyway so by the time we came through to collect our baggage it was pushing midnight.
The flight that had landed seemed to the only one in at the time and so we thought collecting our baggage would be relatively quick which it was.
The walk from the aircraft to the baggage claim was quite long and once we had collected our bags we queued up to get through passport control. Even though it was only one flight coming through it did take some time to do this - if it was much busier i dread to think how long it would take!
The arrivals lounge is relatively small too but has quite a few private lounges for guests of the 5 hotels where you can wait whilst waiting for your transfer. I spotted a sandals lounge and a couples lounge.
Upon coming out of the terminal we were met by our rep who had transport arranged for us but I could see buses and taxis lined up right outside so if making your own way it would be really easy to do get on your way from the airport. Once you come out of the airport you can get straight onto the main road into Montego Bay.
The departures side fo the Airport is slightly larger and once again we were on a late flight so again it was pretty quiet in the airport. Check in was nice and smooth and we saw the secuirty gaurds doing random spot checks on people. As you go through into the airside section there are lots of shops and places to browse for goodies and there are also a couple of food stands where you can get light snacks. Most of these were closing as we came through as it was late but we still managed to get a couple of bargains in duty free!
In the airport they also have a lovely bobsleigh on display from the olympics which looks quite funny in the middle of the caribbean!
there are some more shops and snack bars as you go down to the gates and these were still open which i imagine is becasue they know passengers will be coming by.
As we started to baord the aircraft they were doing even more checks - now to be honest I don't know if this is normal or not as when we landed at Heathrow, police boarded and arrested a man so it could have been just becasue of him or it could be normal for them to be extra careful doing checks.
Overall a nice little airport with enough shops to pass time with and quite spacious for a small airport.
