San Bernardino alle Ossa

La chiesa di San Bernardino alle Ossa e' un chiesa che si trova proprio alle spalle del Duomo, subito dopo Piazza Fontana. Sorge accanto alla chiesa di Santo Stefano, dove nel 1145, in pieno MedioEvo, Goffredo da Bussero finanziò la costruzione di un ospedale, ma ben presto si dovette costruire proprio accanto all'ospedale un cimitero, per poter seppellire i morti. Nel 1210 lo spazio al cimitero finì e quindi si rese necessaria la costruzione di una camera che facesse da ossario per poter avere un posto dove seppellire i morti. L'ospedale probabilmente fu gestito dall'ordine Laico dei Disciplini e nel 1268 questi fecero costruire una piccola chiesa vicino all'Ossario, che nel 1642 crollo'. Nel 1695 venne ricostruita la chiesa mentre l'Ossario dovette essere rifatto da capo ed e' proprio quello ancora oggi visitabile. La caratteristica è quella di avere le pareti ricoperte di teschi e di ossa, recuperati dal vecchio ossario e da alcuni cimiteri ai tempi smantellati.
