Riverside Court - Sheffield, United Kingdom - January, 2007
The Riverside Court Hotel (06.07.2007 20:45)
The Riverside Court Hotel is situated just outside Sheffield City Centre within a few minutes walk of the main markets and one of the main Shopping areas of the City. It occupies a prominent position on the corner of Nursery Street, where it meets the Wicker. Historically the Wicker is an area of the City that was once a thriving part of Sheffield with lots of Shops and Businesses. Today it [more...]

Alcatraz - San Francisco, United States of America
    Alcatraz - A unique experience (06.07.2007 06:55)
The island of Alcatraz lies in the middle of San Francisco bay off the west coast of California; although it is only about one and a half miles from the coast its isolation is immense and best appreciated from the island itself. As I stood on the edge of the courtyard and looked down the steep rocky cliffs to the sea I realised that this was the true definition of isolation. The distant lights of [more...]

Creswell Crags - Worksop, United Kingdom
    Creswell Crags (05.07.2007 19:25)
Creswell Crags are fairly local to me so over the years I have visited this place several times. The whole area is a Limestone Gorge scattered with Caves and small Fissures but these Caves hold secrets dating back to the Ice Age. The remains of Animals and Stone Tools found in the Caves here have proved that people lived in these Caves during the Ice Age, some 50,000 years ago. Creswell Crags [more...]

Town Hall - Sheffield, United Kingdom
The Town Hall Building (05.07.2007 13:59)
The current Town Hall Building in the centre of Sheffield is one of only two Grade 1 listed Buildings in Sheffield. Built in 1890 this is the fourth Town Hall Building that the City has had. The first Town Hall Building was built in 1637. The second Town Hall Building was used between 1700 and 1808, whilst the third Building was used between 1808 and 1897. The current Town Hall Building is [more...]

Shipley Country Park - Heanor, United Kingdom
    Shipley Country Park (05.07.2007 09:19)
Shipley Country Park is located between Ilkeston and Heanor in Derbyshire, 10 miles to the North East of Derby and 11 miles to the West of Nottinghamshire. The Park covers an area of over 600 acres of open Grassland, landscaped Gardens, Lakes and Reservoirs and other recreational areas. This is an area of Derbyshire that I seldom visit, as I tend to prefer the more hilly areas of the Peak [more...]

St Edmund's Church - Castleton, United Kingdom
    St Edmund's Parish Church (04.07.2007 19:08)
The Church of St Edmunds can be found in the heart of the picturesque Peak District village of Castleton in Derbyshire. I usually try and make a point of visiting Churches whilst I am in an area, not because I am a religious person, but because they are generally beautiful buildings that are steeped in history. St Edmund's is no exception to this rule and serves as an excellent place to learn [more...]

The Brecon Hotel in Rotherham (04.07.2007 10:40)
The Brecon Hotel in Rotherham was the choice of venue for a work's function. We had left it a little late to get in any of our preferred venues and found that the Brecon was just about the only place that could accommodate our part of around 40 people. This was my first visit to this Hotel, although since it is located on one of the main routes just outside of Rotherham it is a place that I [more...]

Leighton Moss Nature Reserve - Carnforth, United Kingdom
Leighton Moss Nature Reserve (03.07.2007 19:02)
Leighton Moss is an area of extensive reed beds and salt marshes near Morecambe in Lancashire. It is the largest remaining habitat of its type in the north west of England and the whole site is owned and managed by the RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds). I have some very fond memories of this Nature Reserve as a young Child, when my Parents used to bring me here en route to our [more...]

The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop - Bakewell, United Kingdom
The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop (02.07.2007 20:29)
The Derbyshire Village of Bakewell is famous for giving its name to a unique dessert that is now known World over as either Bakewell Tarts or Bakewell Puddings. There is a great deal of debate regarding the name, although locally there seems to be a preference to using the name Pudding rather than Tart and I shall therefore hereafter adopt that same nomenclature. The very first Bakewell [more...]

Empire State Building - New York City, United States of America
The Empire State Building (01.07.2007 16:01)
Very few visitors to New York can leave the city without visiting the Empire State Building, as its presence dominates the city, but that is exactly what I did a few years ago. The truth is I fully intended to pay a visit but I just ran out of time. Therefore when I found myself back in New York a couple of years ago I made sure that it was at the top of my list of things to do. THE [more...]
