Compiled for you: The facts!Details Heri es Souani

Description: Moulay Ismail was the sultan who chose Meknes as his Imperial capital and Heri es-Souani is one of Moulay Idris's most famous architectural legacies. The building was created as a massive storehouse and granary - a place where he could house his 1200 horses as well as grain and other foodstuffs.

The building today is partially in ruins with parts of the roof long gone and some areas of the building are nothing more than stone arches. However, the building retains some of the architectural features that kept it a cool storage place in the hottest of summers. These include small windows and walls up to 4m thick.

Entrance is 10 dirhams and the building is open from 9 am to noon and from 3 pm to 6 pm
