[more]Whenever Megève is mentioned, one name immediately
springs to mind, ringing out loud and clear like the bells in
the church square: the Mont-Blanc, the hotel up among the
mountain peaks.
With the passing decades, the hotels reputation has
steadily grown since the Fifties, when Megève was at the
height of its glory and writers, singers and musicians would
come there to trumpet their celebrity.
With its elegant chalet façade, its distinguished saloons and
cosily inviting bedrooms, the resorts legendary hotel, its
pedigree already well-established, is now ready for further
exciting seasons with its new restaurant and Spa, under the
dynamic impetus of Jocelyne and Jean-Louis Sibuet.
Through the lounges, the library, corridors, Les Enfants
Terribles restaurant, drawings, lithographs and a fresco by
Jean Cocteau all echo the poets presence.
A unique atmosphere reigns on the next floor and in the
bedrooms, with a harmonious combination of English,
Austrian and Savoyard styles: light woods, checked fabrics,
wing chairs, stags antlers, standard lamps and throws on
the sofas. The eye is constantly drawn, or rather hypnotised,
by all these facets that are far from being merely details.
And when a piece of antique English furniture whispers in
our ear in the language of Shakespeare, a second later a
Savoyard dresser gently reminds us that here we are in the
land of mountain pastures and Alpine scents. And indeed,
the balconies offer magnificent views over the mountains
and village.
The tea-room, famous for its range of teas and eleven kinds
of home-made hot chocolate, turns into a bar at 6.00 pm.
Known as Le Georges , in tribute to Georges Boisson,
who set the hotel on its feet again in 1949, this Champagne
bar offers a range of top champagne brands and mouthwatering
combinations of caviar and foie gras.
The Spa Pure Altitude offers an indoor pool and jacuzzi open
to the sun, and its four treatment cabins that fit in perfectly
with a pure world of ice and snow.
The Hotel Mont-Blanc and its restaurant Les Enfants
Terribles took its place in French history almost 70 years ago,
when, at the end of the 1940s, the country rediscovered
the need to escape, to create and invent...
This New Wave was accompanied by the emergence of
new film directors, writers, singers and artists...
Indeed, several scenes of the famous Liaisons
Dangereuses , featuring Jeanne Moreau were shot in the
Hotel Mont-Blanc and in Megève. The actor Fernandel also
stayed in this hotel, whose walls are decorated with the
eternal art of Cocteau.
It was this spirit of renaissance and unlimited
possibilities that prompted Jean Cocteau to call Megève,
the Hotel Mont-Blanc and its Enfants Terribles , the 21st
arrondissement of Paris . If we do not rewrite history, we
can draw powerful ideas from it and explore an itinerary
synonymous for years with unforgettable celebrations.
Under the Sibuets impetus, at the dawn of a fairytale
Christmas in 2007, the Mont Blanc Hotel finally
reappropriated Les Enfants Terribles, now the most refined
of restaurants.
To do justice to the history of the place in an ambience
that navigates between the modern and the nostalgic, the
restaurant sports a refined and unconventional decoration
in a harmonious mix of red, black and tobacco.
Echoing the Fifties design, coloured crystal wall lamps can
be seen side by side with pottery from the Jean Marais
workshops. The original fresco and engravings by Cocteau
illustrate the cultural heritage left by the artist. A love story,
paying tribute to those who helped to make Megève a
legendary international destination.
With its open kitchen, Les Enfants Terribles renews its ties
with tradition, with all the wonderful smells of a rotisserie
including the restaurants spearhead, the ever-popular
pepper steak and the opulence of an oyster bar, perfect
for those craving a taste of the sea.
Those seeking to assuage a sweet tooth can enjoy the
celebrated Rum Baba or the restaurants equally famous
profiteroles.
This new gastronomic stopover in Megève can be explored
all the year round!
