The Marriott Renaissance Hotel lies just a few minutes walk from the Arndale Centre, Manchester's premier shopping centre, and also the other attractions of the city centre, including entertainment, culture and shopping. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, many with views over Manchester, or the neighboring city of Salford.
The buffet breakfast in Robbie's Restaurant is satisfactory, but some food items could be replenished more frequently during the long service period. The luch provided for myself, attending a meeting at the hotel, was of limited choice but high quality. Staff throughout the establishment were pleasant and polite. The hotel has its own car park, which is expensive at £15 per day.
Public areas, conference suites and bedrooms are all fitted with smoke/heat alarms, but disappointingly, not with a fire sprinkler system. The usual fire escape stairs are on each floor; however, their exit doors are alarmed, so cannot be used as an alternative to the lifts by "fitness enthusiast" guests. There are no other stairs to use by guests as an alternative to the three lifts (which are often crowded), and this includes the one lift that served the car park.

The room I used, 911, was spacious, with two double beds, a seating area and large bathroom. The television had the usual limited facilties offered by hotel TVs eg no Ceefax on BBC. There was a working fridge, which could be stocked by guests.

There are few hotels in Manchester that are as well placed as this one. However, its close proximity to Deansgate means that, in the early hours, there is the noise of the sirens of police cars and ambulances, especially on Friday and Saturday nights.
