The hotel is in "the best place from which to survey" the city's high "speed of metamorphosis". It is located within "the new Beetham Tower", which is "a shiny Tetris piece slotted into the redbrick city centre". The hotel is at the "bottom half" of the tower. The guests can use the "the express lift to the 23rd-floor bar at dusk" where they can enjoy "a giddy urban panorama" and from where on good days you can even see the "Lancashire coast". The club is visited by "a youthful cocktail clientele who dare to stand on a glass porthole cut in the cantilevered floor" and there are "club classic [more]

It was the Cloud 23 bar on the 23rd floor in the "UKs tallest building outside London" the author wanted to see. When he eventually managed it he declared it worthwhile,with "great views" and "a chilled vibe". Unfortunately not all the rest of the hotel lived up to this. The "brown and beige inspired" room smelt "a tad stale" and was "too dim". Soundproofing was poor and the wifi connection expensive.On the other hand the food, which he expected to be bland, was a pleasant surprise.
