Then they walk along the main street which ends in the piazza, one has to turn right to enter the church. [20/07/2010] Visitors see no curtain when they enter the Ambassadors Theatre in London, the stage shows an inner city slummy backyard of the kind we know from innumerable American films, surprisingly the writings on the walls are in German! [20/07/2010] When we were in Luxor in Upper Egypt 30 years ago, we crossed the Nile by ferryboat to get to the West bank (called Thebes by the ancient Greeks) from where a bus took us to the Valley of the Kings. This isn’t done any more, a bridge was built 7 km downstream 10 years ago and now it’s a bus ride all the way. A bridge, what else is new? [20/07/2010] You can walk up a short and very steep alleyway, an even steeper flight of stairs or take the funicular up to the castle. It's only a ride of two minutes and quite disappointing because you are in a tunnel all the time. Later it was partially destroyed by fire and rebuilt in 1111, in the 13th century it received its present late-Romanesque form. [19/07/2010] The beach of Tel Aviv is 10 km long and covered with light, nearly powdery sand. Due to the long weekend it was packed full, never in my life have I been on such a full beach, I was surprised to discover that I didn’t become panicky but felt good there.
