    The Portland Observatory is located about 5 blocks from the harbour. It is built like an inland lighthouse and is a very interesting building. They offer walking tours of the building, which we did not feel was strictly necessary, as we could have done a self-guided tour just as easily.     Beautiful lighthouse in beautiful location (07.02.2008 21:22)
    York Beach is located just north of Kittery in Maine. We stopped off here on our way up to Portland, and we can definitely recommend it. We did not stop in the town itself, but followed the road to the lighthouse area. Here there is a large car park with shops, restaurants, etc., but the main attraction is the lighthouse.
