[kingseany, 05/10/2005] We stayed at the Riu Merengue in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic in January 2004. This is classed as a five star all inclusive, and is located on the North coast of the island. Distance from the airport is only about 30 minutes, so it's not long before you are settling in after the gruelling flight. Check in was quick, there weren't too many other arrivals at the same time thankfully. We were handed a nice welcome drink and wandered off to find our room. It took a while, even though we had some kind of map, but it would have been nice to have been shown to the room, as it was no longer day [more]

The resort is described as being very well kept and tidy, and the rooms as "nice". The reviewer commented on the buffet restaurant saying there was a "huge range of food intended to suit everyone", however goes on to say "was not up to my expectations", and on the whole was dissappointed. Evening entertainment was said to be "interesting". In summary the concensus seems to be varied depending on your previous holiday experience - but then that's quite normal.

Perfection!

Rachel visited this hotel in August and had a fantastic time. She says the hotel is "absolutely spotless". On commenting on the drinking side of things, says "The bar staff were absolutely excellent", "always made me laugh". Describing the entertainment staff, she says they "were very good". The food "was super", and the rooms "were brilliant".
