Frommers have rated the Westin Palace, which reminded the author of "an ornate Victorian wedding cake", as exceptional. The hotel is located in the "historical and artistic area" of Madrid and "covers an entire block". It is right opposite the Prado and the Neptune Fountain and the author notes that the "main shopping center", as well as the "best antiques shops", are "within walking distance". The guest-list of the Palace includes "politicians, artists and celebrities" and the author has found the "most intriguing tascas and restaurants" just a "short stroll away".
Mr Stone describes the design of the hotel as "grand pre-World War I style", offering "space and comfort" and was most impressed by the "stunning atrium". The service at the Palace is rated as "first-class" by the writer.
He also describes the rooms as spacious with a "conservative, traditional" design and "lots of extras". He found the rooms on the "fourth, fifth an sixth floors" to be the best and warns that rooms that are located "on the side" have no "views" and are "noisy". He also writes that many rooms seem to be in need of renovation, but that all the units offer "immaculate bathrooms".
