[more]The functional, comfortable, private Apartamento Cervantes sleeps 2 in a great location of Madrid, near the hip Lavapiés and lively nightlife of the Huertas areas. From here you are easy walking distance to the central Puerta del Sol, Plaza Santa Ana which is a favourite for tapas and bars, the sunny colonnaded Plaza Mayor, and the great museums of the city. The Prado is the most famous of the big three museums in the city (the others are the Reina Sofía contemporary art museum and Thyssen). In the Prado you will find the country’s vast collection of classical art by Spanish masters and some Flemish and Italian greats as well. Keep an eye out for Bosch’s Garden of Earthly Delights- said to be a sort of horrific precursor to surrealism and Goya’s portrait of the royal family- not exactly the most flattering imaginable (Goya himself is hiding in the back).Spanish people love gastronomic travel, and Madrid is a tapas mecca for natives. Just wander the area around C / Huertas, and try the patatas alioli, marinated olives and cheeses, and beautiful jamón serrano. To splurge on a great meal, try Lhardy on C / Carrera de San Jerónimo, 8 a class act restaurant / deli style establishment known for its croquetas and hot soups in winter- try the cocido, a typical dish in Madrid. This basic, 1-room studio apartment sleeps 2 people in a large sofa bed which sleeps 2. There is a small but well-equipped kitchen, and the bathroom has a tub and shower.A basic apartment in an unbeatable location!
