Its spectacular beauty inspired famous literary figures such as Wordsworth, Coleridge and Blackmore. Percy Bysshe Shelley, the 19th century English Romantic poet honeymooned there during the summer of 1812 at Mrs Hooper’s Lodgings, now Shelley’s.\n\nLynmouth was \'discovered\' in the first decade of the 19th century when the Napoleonic Wars had closed the Continent to English visitors. As they were unable to make the Grand Tour due to conflict in Europe, the Victorians visited the area, naming it “Little Switzerland” as it reminded them so much of the country.By Car\n- Lynmouth is situated in Exmoor National Park on the A39 between Minehead and Barnstaple. \n- From the M5, exit junction 23 Bridgwater, following the A39 towards Minehead and through Porlock along the coast to Lynmouth. \n- Or, exit junction 27 towards Tiverton, following the A361 to South Molton, the A399 to Blackmore Gate, and the A39 to Lynmouth. \n- Shelley\'s is situated at the main road junction in the centre of the village, next to Glen Lyn Gorge and overlooking Lynmouth Bay. \n- Please unload luggage at the drop-off point in front of Shelley\'s before parking.
