, 26/10/2010] The Tower of London is considered to be a must-see attraction when visiting London. Although in recent three years I have visited London regularly I just saw it last Sunday(30 May). Brief history: The Tower of London is described as the heart and soul of England. Its official name is Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress, but it is more commonly known as the Tower of London and historically as The Tower. It is often identified with the White Tower, however as a whole it is a complex of several buildings set within two concentric rings of defensive walls and a moat. Back to Roman t

, 01/06/2010] It is only when you begin to get close to it that one truly begins to appreciate the sheer size and significance of tower bridge, its two massive towers providing a fitting representation of this city of doubles and opposition. Feeling one's stomach lurch with vertigo as it opens it's massive jaws to allow yet another ship to pass down the city's osophagus, and finally the small thrill that one experiences when walking accross the huge crevice that separates the bridge down the middle, excitably aware that one glich in engineering could set the jaws to open when you are still not safely accro

One of the Best Days Out in London

, 07/09/2009] I have been planning to visit the Tower of London for years and until this weekend never got around to it, so for me there was a lot of expectation and I was not disappointed. -Ticket Prices- Adults- £16.50 Children-£9.50 Family tickets and concessions are available and you can get discount if you book online. -The Tour- The tour is included in the ticket price and is definitely worth joining. The tours start every half hour and last around an hour. For me this was the highlight of an excellent day. The tour is given by a Yeoman Warder, who is actually a member of the militar

The Tower and the Tower Bridge
Date published: Jan 2001
Author: Tom Galvin
User review
The author suggests that "no one who's visiting London" should miss the Tower of London. He describes it as "a rich museum complex" with exhibits containing "crown jewels, medieval arms and weaponry". He also mentions the "tours through the royal apartments" which would have been used when the castle complex "used to be the home of England's great and many kings". In the author's opinion the Tower has "some of the best (and best dressed) tour guides available" and is "filled with history". On a walking route you "can readily find the site where Anne Boleyn was beheaded". One of the favourite s

A Royal Palace
Date published: Jan 2006
Author: Brown, Jackum, et al
Travel guide extract
The palace is described by the authors as the "most famous" structure for being a prison and a place of torture". The author explain how the Tower of London was established "dating back almost one thousand years". It became a "prison for high-ranking convicts" and it is early known as "Bloody Tower". There are things to see inside the palace such as "The Royal Armouries, the Chapel of St John the Evangelist, Traitor's Gate, and the Beauchamp Tower", including the "most famous Crown Jewels". The "Tower Hill tube station" is the "nearest" transport route that is accessible to the palace.

A Lonely Planet Guide to The Tower of London
Date published: May 2007
Author: Laetitia Clapton
Travel guide extract
The author regards this "world heritage" attraction as "one of the most essential sights to see in London" and a "window into a gruesome, fascinating history". Entry to the tower is £15 for adults, but the author considers the "free guided tour" with one of the "Tudor-garbed Beefeaters" as "hugely entertaining". The most "striking" building is the "Romanesque" White Tower. Also recommended is the Waterloo Barracks which houses the Crown Jewels and the "Bloody Tower" where 12-year-old Edward V met his fate.
