Rich in history and culture

, 17/03/2010] The British Museum in London offers one of the best museum experiences in the city, regardless of whether one is a young adult, senior, or family accompanied by children. The outdoor view of the museum is very imposing, with massive columns supporting the museum's beautiful facade. The collections inside the museum are breath-taking and largely unique to this part of Europe - the Egyptian wing, for example, contains several genuine mummies in varying levels of preservation, that do not exist in most museums covering the period. The Viking and Saxon galleries are similarly impressive, wit

, 10/12/2009] The British Museum occupies a vast site in Russell Street, close to Russell Square, where the nearest tube station is situated. It's also just a short walk from Covent Garden. Yet another free attraction, suitable for a Foggy Day in London Town. The entrance is free, but special exhibitions are generally £12 entrance fee. This is the case with the current exhibition, Moctezuma, Aztec ruler. There were aspects of the exhibition that I didn't care for, because what we are looking at here is an exceptionally brutal culture, with plenty of human sacrifice and war, sometimes both together. , 01/08/2005] The British Museum is an absolute must for all people interested in archaeology and antiques, be it British, European or Middle Eastern. It's a veritable treasurehouse of artefacts and a centre of learning (with a library accessible to scholars). The collections include all that has been brought back home to Blighty by the explorers / scientists / looters of the imperial era, from the famous and controversial Elgin Marbles to many Egyptian mummies to absolutely fantastic Assyrian / Babylonian exhibits. The British section is also very impressive with exhibits like Sutton Hoo hoard and similar. The

DAnneC rates the British Museum
Date published: Apr 2000
Author: DAnneC
Article
DAnneC rated the British Museum five of five stars. She noted "it is a must see during your trip to London". On a trip in 2000 the British Museum was "the first item on my personal agenda". The British Museum "long ago established the standard for the preservation of antiquities". She was thrilled by "gazing in awe at mythical beast" which once guarded ancient Mesopotamian cities. There was "a series of Egyptian monuments" as well as many other galleries containing such treasures as "Assyrian reliefs, Etruscan bronze weaponry and exquisite Greek and Roman vases". Among all this vast treasure o

This attraction holds a "plunder of incalculable value and beauty from around the globe". In the authors opinion the building which he describes as a "Greco-Victorian building" makes a "suitably grand impression". Speaking about the exhibits which can be seen inside the museum we are informed they are "are some of the greatest relics of humankind". Inside the museum, many of sections "have been updated, particularly in ethnography." The author continues to give some detail about the exhibits and what they look like. Speaking about the collections inside the museum, we are told it "began in

Darwin Porter introduces the British Museum

Mr. Porter gives a rating of exceptional or three of three stars. Accessing the British Museum is possible via the "tubes: Holborn, Tottenham Court Rd., Goodge St or Russell Sq.". Admission is free. The British Museum is "set in scholarly Bloomsbury" and "grew out of a private collection of manuscripts purchased in 1753". Over the years via "legacies, discoveries and purchases" it grew until it became "one of the most comprehensive collections" of the artifacts of human history. The general scheme "splits basically into the national collections of antiquities". Highly recommended "even on a
