Tower Bridge, which was completed in 1894, is one of London's "great" landmarks. Built of steel (with 2 million rivets) its stone facing is "only for show". Its bascules, the "arms" of the bridge are raised and lowered for shipping "hundreeds of times a year". During her visit, which started with videos of the history of the bridge, the author found things to interest both adults and children. A lift ride 140 feet up the tower leads to "marvellous views" from the high walkways, which are identuified with "information panels". There are demonstrations of the working of the bridge and of the steam engines which were used "prior to electrification". Children can stand "one foot on each bascule" watching the boats below, operate a "talking telescope", see the "interactives" in the Engine Room and the "biggest spanners you ever saw". It is also possible to "time your visit for a bridge lift". The tour has been made wheelchair accessible and admission is quoted as being "Adults £5.50, child 5-15 £3, concessions £4.25."
