Situated in one of the "busiest" neighbourhoods in central London and famous for its American Bar, the Stafford is a refurbished Victorian hotel with "antique charm and modern amenities". Wherever possible "much has been done" to preserve the "original style" of the rooms. The "warmth" of its Edwardian decor and its St James's address attracts an "upmarket clientele". The decoration of the bedrooms reflect the "private home origins" of the hotel. Beds are "large" in comparison to the size of the room or suite and the largest are contained in the restored stable mews. The four-posters made the author "feel like Henry VIII". Rooms, all of which are nonsmoking, feature safes, stereo systems and "antique reproduction" furnishings. The hotel also has a restaurant and offers 24 hour room service, business facilities and access to a nearby health club. Frommers considered The Stafford "exceptional" and places it in the "very expensive" ($$$$) category.
