Article
[Newfloridian, 07.10.2006] According to the author, the Academy was created from three Georgian townhouses from which "many original architectural" details were preserved. "Substantially upgraded" in 1990, it is situated in London's publishing district where "Virginia Woolf and other members of the Bloomsbury Group" lived and worked. It is only a short walk to Covent Garden and the theatre district. The facade includes "glass panels" and "intricate" plasterwork. He notes that the guest rooms "evoke" thoughts of the "poorer relations of country house living", but you are promised "a restful night's sleep" on the "American specified" bed. After the modernisation, every bedroom now has a bathroom (either with tub or shower) "whether or not there was space". He remarks that returning guests "always" request garden rooms at the back of the hotel. The front rooms are double glazed "to cut down on the noise". The hotel has a bar, but only limited room service. He also warns that there is no elevator to the fourth floor. The Academy earns a "highly recommended" rating from Frommers and is noted to be "expensive" ($$$)
