Dukes is said to be "one of the oldest privately run hotels in London", states the author of this review, Joanne O Connor. She describes how it is "tucked away in a peaceful flower-filled courtyard near Green Park" and about its facade which is red-brick. She states that the hotel offers a "traditional, very English experience", from the Grandfather clock in reception, to Afternoon Tea and to the "slighty chintzy decor". Mary Gold, the author, describes that the hotel was "astonishingly quiet" for its position and that it was a "handsome Georgian pile", still with its original gas lighting! It had a "country house feel" but with "non of that minimalist nonsense" and although large, had an intimate atmosphere. Rooms were decorated with restful colours, squashy sofas, oak furniture, antique prints and the suites also had plasma TVs and a view of Green Park.
