The Crowne Plaza is located "on the former site of Henry VIII's Bridewell Palace" and is housed "within the "shell of an old stationery warehouse". Following various reincarnations this is now "a polished hotel" which has an "all-business appearance" but the author says don't let this appearance and its "financial-district location put you off".
