The Robba Fountain is on Mestni trg which roughly translates as 'Town Square' though 'place' is probably a better description for many of Slovenia's so-called squares because it's really a widening of the main street passing through the old town rather than a grand square.
Here on Mestni trg you'll find the old town hall ('Magistrat') and numerous houses that are officially declared historica

[fizzytom, 14/10/2011] We first visited Slovenia back in 2004; I'd wanted to visit for some time and when Himself got the chance to take part in a project involving the respective employment services from four European countries, one of which was Slovenia, I knew I had to tag along. Himself arrived in Ljubljana a few days before me and when I arrived he raved about a restaurant called Sokol that the Slovene contingent had taken the group to. In those days Sokol was the place that foreign visitors were taken to in order to sample some traditional Slovene cuisine; it still is to some extent but the restaurant scene is

The bridge is yet another one to span the Ljubljanica and it is situated approximately halfway between the Dragon Bridge and the Triple Bridge, more specifically linking the northern embankment, the Petkovskovo Nabrezje, with a gap between the two colonnaded buildings of the central market.
When Joze Plecnik designed the central market it was his intention that there should be a bridge at this spot but this was neve

The square stands at the place where the old town meets new Ljubljana and is a popular meeting place and the focus for various events during the year. It also contains some of the city's most striking art nouveau buildings.
Although Prešernov trg is now almost entirely traffic free you can see that it used to be a road junction; since traffic was banned a couple of years ago and lengthy works started on nearby Kongresni trg (to my mind one of the nicest square in the city,

What is great about it is that it doesn't appear to charge you extra for the location which many places in the area do. You can order some traditional Sovene dishes but most people come here to be baffled by the seemingly endless list of pizzas, about 105 at the last count. Allow at least twenty minutes to decide! In fact the pizzas are quite similar but are listed with each little change. For example you'll s

[fizzytom, 24/06/2011] Although Ljubljana has a handful of moderately interesting museums, I usually find that I can pass my day or afternoon in the capital quite easily just strolling around the compact city centre and never feel the need to be constantly looking for something new to see. However, the more I explore the city, the more I’ve come to appreciate just how much of the way the city looks is down to one man Joze Plečnik . There are the obvious sights such as the central market and the triple bridge, then the lesser known but still accessible Krizanke, a former monastery and now home to the Ljubljana Festi

Definitely the place to see, if you visit Ljubljana!
[tinna, 15/06/2011] Atlantis is the biggest water park in Ljubljana. This makes it very convenient, if one just want to relax and doesn´t feel like driving out of the capital city.
It consists of three main parts and you can buy tickets for one part or a combination of them.
Adventure World is a fun part of Atlantis and is devoted mainly to children. There are slides, underground cave, whirlpoolsand a free flow restaurant.
Thermal Temple is devoted to relaxation.
Last but not least, Sauna Land offers various saunas.
In addition, one can find in Atlantis also a hair salon, a beauty salon, a massage centre

There are more than 450 shops, market with fresh fruits and vegetables, water park, casino, several bars and restaurants, theatre, sports centre, car wash, cinema...
BTC City can be easily accessed by car. Additional plus is that there are numerous free of charge parking places. The other option is to take the bus number 27.
All then distances in BTC City are within walkable distance. In addition, BTC offers free bus shuttle to take you around.
[fizzytom, 07/06/2011] Situated in a small yard opposite the popular Cutty Sark pub near Presernov trg, this popular restaurant can get very busy at weekends, and you should maybe consider a reservation on Fridays or Saturdays. It serves fairly standard Mexican fare, which to Slovenians is rather exciting and consequently all the rage. Things don't liven up until late on however, when DJs play dance music upstairs - closing time in summer is 1.00am Sunday to Tuesday and 3.00am otherwise. In winter the restaurant closes slightly earlier but refer to their website for details.
The colourful interior is bright and

[mkapetanovic, 19/05/2011] With my friends from high school we spent weekend in Ljubljana. When I asked few friends where to go and get tastfool food they recommend Mencigar Nobile restaurant since they have traditional cousine. I must admit it was hard to find but it was worth of it to spend some time looking the map. I helped myself with Nokia GPS. We tryed some local speciality called bograč and game - wild pig. Great stuf. Anyway...Night was good and service as well.

[fizzytom, 29/01/2011] Looking for cheap accommodation in Ljubljana but don’t want to stay in a hostel? Stari Tisler is an excellent option for simple but comfortable accommodation in a good location but doesn’t come with the noise from hordes of drunken backpackers.
A few years ago I rented a small apartment on Kolodovorska Ulica, just a couple of doors from Stari Tisler; at that time only the bar and restaurant was open but now the guest rooms on the second floor are in use again. You can contact Stari Tisler by telephone or by submitting a reservation enquiry using the form on their website. I submitted an e

Try typical Prekmurje dishes like Bograch, Tunka or homemade pork sausage with sour turnip, while for dessert the famous Gibanica is a must, though we were told that guests return for pumpkin ice cream also.
[fbojan, 01/10/2010] If you want to eat traditional Slovenian food in really great atmosphere with nice staff and delicious food, this is the place! And you must MUST try "prekmurska gibanica"! :)
[fizzytom, 29/06/2010] Situated in a residential area to the north of the Ljubljana’s main train station, on the edge of the vast Bezigrad housing estate, this apartment at Vilharjeva is a good choice for people who want the option of self catering or who simply don’t want to stay in a hotel, but still want to be within easy walking distance of the centre.
This modern studio flat is on the ground floor of a low rise block and has its own front door. There are parking spaces right outside but if you are coming by bus or train, both those stations are just five minutes away.
The apartment is fairly newly refur

[fizzytom, 29/06/2010] On our second visit to Ljubljana we decided to stay in an apartment to give ourselves a bit more freedom and comfort. At the time there were not so many budget hotels and pensions Ljubljana so apartments usually represented good value. This one bedroom apartment on Kolodvorska ul is eight minutes walk away from the Triple Bridge and old Ljubljana in one direction and five minutes from the train and bus station in the other. It’s on the higher section of Kolodvorska ul so there’s not a huge amount of traffic going past.
You access the apartment by going through an archway (sometimes the wro

[fizzytom, 28/06/2010] While Ljubljana’s is not the most impressive or interesting of Slovenia’s many castles it is certainly worth a look if you are visiting the city. Its elevated position gives access to terrific views which alone is a good reason to warrant a visit and once there you can opt to see as much or as little as you prefer.
The castle is not the fairytale version with turrets and towers but a typically central European style castle; it is predominantly baroque in style with a few later additions. It watches over the old town but does so in a rather benign way and it isn’t at all threatening (contra

This used to be a state run hotel which has been extensively refurbished and modernised throughout. It occupies a corner position at the end of Dalmationova and kolodvorska Ulica. First impressions are good with a modern and bright lobby which houses reception, a bar, the breakfast area and restaurant and internet terminals. The fact that so

[fizzytom, 20/06/2010] This hostel enjoys an enviable position on the southern side of the Ljubljanica River, on the edge of the Old Town and close to the bars and eateries. We stayed two nights in June.
It COULD be one of the best places to stay but our experience was disappointing. Be warned: this is a party hostel and is likely to be booked up with groups of stag do-ers and the like. Unusually for a hostel there was not one notice asking guests to be respectful of other guests.
Each floor has a couple of six bed dorms and a double bedroom. Alas our double was next to the showers and people would stand chat
