Located in a "former 18th-century riding academy" at the Belém Royal Palace, the National Coach Museum is very highly recommended by Frommers and said to be "the finest of its type in the world" and, unsurprisingly, "the most visited attraction in Lisbon". Coaches dating from the 17th- to 19th-century are displayed, including "a trio of opulently gilded baroque carriages" circa 1716 and a coach with which "Phillip II, journeyed from Madrid to Lisbon".
