The hotel is known by locals as the headquarters for the Socialist party on election nights and is - according to the Wallpaper guide - not a hotel where "one expects thrills". However when it was built in the 1970's its interior was "thought out to the last detail" by Daciana da Costa "the father or Portuguese design" although only the top-floor bar survived "mostly intact" with its "magnificent" lounge chairs. Renovations elsewhere in the hotel have "taken their toll" in much of the rest of the hotel However, the owners are promising to restore the hotel to its "former glory"
