We stayed here for 4 nights over the Shetland Folk Festival and I can honestly say that I have not stayed anywhere better for the price. Lynne and Jim bend over backwards to ensure your stay is a memorable and enjoyable experience. We had a lovely room with a super king-size bed - yes, super king! The TV in the room was not your usual inferior box set made in Taiwan but a Sony Bravia flat screen just like ours at home so we knew the handset straightaway! The in-room tea and coffee was complete with biscuits and Lynne brought us fresh milk rather than those little UHT thingies. We had only to go to the kitchen for a refill.
The breakfasts were to die for. You name the cereal - it was there, as well as a beautiful muesli which may have been homemade. Various yogurts. Fresh orange juice (not concentrate), pineapple or apple juice (which we didn't try). Fresh fruit salads, different daily; e.g. on our last morning we had kiwi fruit, fresh strawberries, fresh raspberries, grapes, pineapple and there was the usual grapefruit segments too. Then there was the breakfast proper. 2 slices of bacon, 2 sausages, 2 eggs (poached, scrambled or fried) what seemed like half a pound of fresh mushrooms, 2 tomatoes beans and loads of white or brown toast, muffins or something Shetlandy which I can't remember but began with a 'b'. The brekky was cooked fresh while you were having your starters and I had to ask Lynne to give me only one of everything because I was being piggy! And, it was quality stuff - not your catering sausages or bacon and the eggs were free range as you might expect in Shetland. You could also have smoked salmon and scrambled eggs which was delicious and there was traditional porridge, too. Tea and coffee by the gallon. We've breakfasted in some of the best hotels on several continents and none could beat this, truly. We were given a key each and you could come and go as you please. Lynne and Jim are great hosts and you know when friendliness is genuine or superficial. I hope they have every success with their business because they deserve it.
