[Cassiecharlie, 02/02/2012] This hotel sells itself as a 'short walk' from the centre of Leeds and close to the railway station - don't be mis-sold like I was. I booked it on Lastminute.com on a 'Secret Hotel' deal. We were going for a night out in Leeds and because the description said it was a short walk into the centre of Leeds and close to the railway station, we assumed it would be either the Queens Hotel or the Park Plaza - both of which are bang in the middle of Leeds. It was the Crowne Plaza which is a good 10 minute walk from the centre of Leeds - not a position of a hotel you would use when you are going o

[serendipity, 04/09/2011] With five of us travelling to Pisa and with the flights being £150 cheaper each than from Newcastle, it seemed sensible to fly from Leeds. After a journey of just under two hours we found the car park and were transferred to the airport.
Our first sighting of the airport prompted one of the group to comment that it needed a “good clean and yes the low rise building does look dirty and dated. The general impression of the place being unkempt continued into the drop off area. Nothing was clearly sign posted and after leaving the coach we followed the other travellers into the main entrance. I

[fayefrancesca, 24/08/2011] A late and thankfully easy check in. Double room was great for 1 business traveller but would not reccomend it for a couple who are staying more than one night. Excellent breakfast buffet.
[7622jon, 15/08/2011] I attended a reunion in this modern city centre hotel, and everything - almost, was great. The staff were friendly and efficient, the buffet food was really good, but why do some - and only some hotels insist on charging for car parking?
We are surely guests - paying guests of the hotel, and to be charged to park a car on top of everything else takes the edge of any event, and leaves a nasty taste in the mouth.
I have used this hotel for years for business meetings etc, as the food and drinks are of a very good quality, but car parking charges should be included in any price offered, whether o

[micksheff, 09/10/2010] On Saturday 13th September 2010 I visited Harewood House near Leeds. It was the Heritage Open Days weekend so admission was free, which was the main reason why I picked this place out since I knew that it was the sort of place that I could spend the best part of a day at.
I had been to Harewood many years ago but we didn't even actually go in the house that day so this has always been a place that I wanted to return back to.
Harewood House is a large country house and estate that is located more or less exactly halfway between Leeds and Harrogate, just off the A61. It is 8 miles from both Le

[YorkshireGirl70, 15/08/2010] I recently visited Leeds with my friend and managed to get a great online deal at Etap Leeds, it was only £28 for the two of us....with breakfast!
Our room was clean and comfortable although slightly basic. We missed having a kettle but we had no problem getting a cup of tea from the reception.
The staff were great! They were really helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
I will definitly be staying at Etap Leeds again and would certainly recommend it.
[fizzytom, 20/07/2010] Until recently I looked on the Ibis chain as a step above Formule 1 (the cheapest and most basic of the Accor Group hotel chains) and it’s newer but slightly more upmarket sister chain Etap. The thing with Ibis is that the standards vary quite considerably between hotels and there is a bewildering array of room tariffs so prices can be eye wateringly expensive for what’s on offer, or a really exciting bargain should your stay or the time you make the booking coincide with one of Accor’s frequent promotions.
I picked Ibis Leeds for a two night stay (Friday and Saturday) based on a combinati

[fizzytom, 20/06/2010] Having become a firm fan of the bargain that is the Formule 1 chain of hotels, I always check on that company's website first when looking for accommodation in the UK. However, when planning a trip to Leeds recently I learned that the chain do not have a hotel there and so had to do more research. The usual 'cheap accommodation in .' search found an article about a hotel that was due to open in Leeds the day before our visit.
The Etap chain of hotels are a French concern and part of Accor, the same parent group of Formule 1. They have hotels across France and Germany and are gradually openi

[daylelisahall, 14/06/2010] I stayed at the Park Plaza hotel in Leeds in August 2009 when I visited a friend in Leeds.
Booking
I booked online through the Park Plaza website. I found the website easy to use and thought that it was well laid out, making it easy for me to choose the room I required. I decided on the entertainment package offer which was £89 for bed, breakfast, a bottle of wine and free movies. I thought this offered pretty good value for money considering I was staying in the middle of the town centre.
Location
I thought the location of this hotel was excellent, right in the centre of the city.

[OvernighterUk, 14/03/2010] I stayed at Etap Leeds while travelling on business, it had been recommended to me by a colleague. The room was pretty basic but it had all I needed for an overnight stay. The room was clean, the shower was great, staff really friendly and welcoming...what more do you want for £36? In the morning I had the breakfast which was more than substantial and only cost £3.25. The only thing I missed was having a kettle in my room but was more than happy when I found out you can get a hot drink 24 / 7 from the reception. I will definitely be staying at Etap again and definitely recommend it!
[serendipity, 18/01/2010] On a recent visit to Leeds we stayed in a hotel close to the city centre and once we had checked in, it being lunch time, we were keen to get something to eat. a short walk from the hotel brought us to this place which looked welcoming with chairs and tables outside and directly overlooking the river.
Inside ...
The restaurant / bar is inside a converted warehouse with evidence of its past being tastefully integrated into the modern and cosy decor. There is a smallish bar at the back of the room with tables and chairs dotted around and by the windows are sofas and tables. All this is in wood

[serendipity, 17/01/2010] The hotel is in a converted 18th century warehouse and right next to the River Aire.
The location is convenient for the city centre and shops and bars and restaurants. The hotel is a great mix of modern and old, and it all works beautifully.
Friendly and efficient staff, 24 hour room service, good food make this a hotel I would recommend and one where I ant to revisit.
[tommo100, 05/08/2009] I recently stayed at the village hotel in leeds. The room and stay in general was ok, but I had problems after checking out. When I arrived there was just £25.00 left to pay for the room (deposit had been paid) I was told I had to give credit card details for my stay, presumably for room service etc. When I left the bill was just £25.00 which I paid cash. Two days later I was at a supermarket checkout with my weekly shop and my card would not authorise payment. On further investigation I found I had enough funds in (£90.00) but available balance was only £20.00 this was because the hotel had ke

[TheDaz, 06/02/2009] Cutting edge it may have been 40 years ago - but now the Merrion Centre stands only for the concrete depression of out of date design that proliferates in unregenerated areas.
The Morrisons aside, the other shops inside are small independent retailers struggling to make a living as they find themselves a way from the newer hub of Leeds' shopping centre - beyond even the adjacent St Johns Centre.
The lighting is poor, the access to the top floor is inadequate, and there aren't even any public toilets available.
To top it off - the attached Car Park, a similarly depressing hunk of concr

[Iohan60, 16/08/2008] More or less what I expected from a hotel like that, not much more than a bed to sleep. For the rest nothing, Also the neighbourhood offers nothing at all. Only when you need to get an early flight it is convenient.
[mrsw, 06/08/2008] The deal booked and agreed via the web suddenly became £40 more on checking out. There appears to be a problem with promotion codes so make sure you get everything in writing, ESPECIALLY THE PRICE before you set foot in the place. Arrogant staff just quote promotion codes and have a "Not Our Problem" attitude.
Date visited: 1st - 3rd August 2008
[serendipity, 05/02/2008] The hotel is very central to most of the shopping centres and restaurants, and being very close to the railway station, it's a good place to stay if travelling by train. We did actually think it would have been better to take the train than the car because as it was, there was no space in the (very small) car park.
For anyone going to Leeds, I would recommend the hotel- luxurious, close to all amenities and not too expensive. I would go back.
[fizzytom, 09/07/2007] Tropical World is situated at the Roundhay Village end of Leeds Roundhay Park. It is an intriguing combination of winter gardens and zoo with a series of expertly created landscapes such as Amazonian rainforest, Australasian desert and swamps for the visitor to explore.
Curiously since the theme is short-lived, you embark on your trip via the HMS Tropical World not a ship at all just a concept and the first stop is a tropical beach scene; rather disappointingly there is not much to see here, just a mock up of a tropical beach. Its at this point that everyone takes off their hats and coat
