[13/02/2007] Fommers highly recommends the "Strip's senior citizen" which used to be the "oasis in the middle of nowhere" of legendary mobster Bugsy Siegel. Of course the hotel has "changed a great deal" since 1946 and even after undergoing a refurbishment recently the author finds, that it still isn't "a real class joint", but seems fresher now and guests won't get lost any more if they are trying to find their way out of the hotel. It also has a branch of "singer Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville theme nightclub" which the author rates as "not bad" for Las Vegas, but that would make him "wince in New Orleans".
The author writes that the rooms are located within the "six towers" of the Flamingo and vary in décor. They either come in soft baby-pastel décor with "pretty fabrics" and "watercolors of tropical scenes" which enhance the "resort look" or in "soft earth tones, forest green and coral".
Food in the "Flamingo Paradise Garden Buffet" has been found as a "decent choice" and the author adds that there are also "several bars" on site.
For entertainment guests will find a "huge casino" and a "production show". For all those who don't want to spend all their time at the tables there is a pool area which the writer has found to be "exceptional". He describes that there are "five gorgeous swimming pools" located within a tropical setting of "lagoons, meandering streams, fountains" and "waterfalls". On top they offer "waterslides, 2 Jacuzzis" and a separate pool for children in which the kids "should be able to spend hours". To round up the Caribbean setting, there are also "live flamingos and African penguins" and the writer marveled at a "grove of 2000 palms" that is located within "an expanse of lawn".
The author also has visited the "health spa", which is not included in the room rate and found out that it offers a wealth of features that includes a "variety of Universal weight machines, treadmills","hot and cool whirlpools, sauna, massage" and more .The author also notes, that there is a stop of the monorail "right out back" which should make it easy to get around the town.
