Lanark Loch is a small loch in South Lanarkshire. There are lots of swans and the number increases every year. This summer I counted 57 when I was feeding them. Most visitors will bring the hungry birds some food but not all of the swans end up getting fed as the bigger, tougher and meaner swans push forward and littler swans don't get a chance to eat. Generaly, people just take bread but I have often tossed them a sardine or a bit of left over fish.
Despite all the swans, the loch is still a great fishing spot. Fishermen (and fisherwomen) will often travel to the loch and set up a tent for the night. When I was younger my papa would always get huge fish from his brother who loved fishing. I always wanted to go with him to catch some fish but he died and I turned into a vegitarian!
Last year, the council tidied the loch up adding a wheelchair ramp, wooding decking and steps. I have found the wheelchair ramp very useful as I broke my leg in the Spring and couldn't go anywhere with my crutches.
The entire loch is beautiful. It has hundreds of trees. There are also some "secret" paths (that's what me and my little sis call them) which all take you back to the normal path.
Overall, the loch is a great place to visit and I would recomend it to anyone who wants a great day out!
