[more]‘The Cradle’ is a 3000-hectare private nature reserve that is a component of the ‘Cradle of Humankind’, which in turn has been designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Located about equidistant from both Johannesburg and Pretoria, the reserve’s mission includes preserving the biological diversity of South Africa’s highvelt grasslands, protecting paleontological / archeological sites chronicling the African origins of the human species, and promoting responsible tourism within this context.
Facilities and services at the Cradle include self-catering chalets surrounded by woodlands along a stream bank, a restaurant that serves the needs of a wide range of private and corporate customers, meeting / events space, a wedding venue, and a program of game drives and bush walks with knowledgeable guides. Archaeological tours are also available.
The Cradle is home to more than 30 species of mammals (including zebra, giraffe, white rhino, and impala), 250 species of birds, and a rich variety of plant life.
