From the pictures we’d seen, and the reports we’d heard, we knew Villa Afrikana was going to be special. This really was the highlight of our trip. The location on the hill (in Paradise) provides glorious views of the heads and is perfectly located to allow exploration of all the areas in Knysna. The décor-magazine interiors are white, unspoiled and evoke a sense of calm with just a little bit of glamour and as soon as we met the hosts, we understood why! Ross & Bianca are warm and welcoming without being intrusive they, as with everything else about Villa Afrikana, defy all expectations of what a guest house should be.
We had the choice of breakfast either on the balcony in our room, overlooking the lagoon, or in the downstairs dining room. You indicate your choice, together with your breakfast preferences, on a room-service type card left over your doorknob overnight so, come morning, it’s simply a matter of stumbling out of the super-comfortable bed, putting on a fluffy robe and breakfast is served to you, right on time, without even having to leave your room.
Leaving your room is, of course, half the point in Knysna, and we Bianca was not only extremely knowledgable about the area, but more than willing to provide whatever assistance we needed from making dinner reservations at one of the personally-reviewed and recommended local restaurants, to organizing taxis, or just providing advice on the best way to structure a day to see the sights that make Knysna famous.
There were so many little surprises, and little extras, that were all the more special due to their extravagance white chocolate dipped strawberries is one, but I’ll stop there in case I ruin the surprise!
This is a place I will return to as often as possible. It is perfection, in every way. I can’t think of how they could make it any better but I have no doubt that, somehow, they will.
