Description: The thousand islands are a chain of islands in the St Lawrence river. The islands stretch for about 50 miles (80 km) downstream from Kingston, Ontario.The Canadian islands are in the province of Ontario. The U.S. islands are in the State of New York. In total there are actually 1,865 islands ranging in size from the larger islands being over 1,000sq km wide to the smaller islands where you will only find a room for one house. Some other islands are merely covered with rocks where you will only find seal or other water fowl. The island count is determined by a bit of land that is above water for 365 days a year and is large enough to support a tree. These islands are very popular with boaters and several boat tours and cruises run daily that last from 1 hour to 2.5 hours with a tour guide on the boat.
