[smilepolite, 26.03.2008] We found this hotel to be very fucntional and appropriate for a short business trip. It features easy access to a major highway which means you are steps away from Houston or whatever business interest you may have in Katy itself. The area surrounding the hotel is fairly developed, again in a functional sort of way. There are plenty of restaurants and shopping opportunities. The breakfast that the hotel offers is tasty and fresh, the environment of hotel is one of quiet efficiency. There are staff members readily available to assist you should you need anything.

As far as these sorts of chain-hotels go, we have found La Quinta to be a very safe name. We've stayed with them often when in need of a place to rest our heads while travelling for work. They are located across the South nearby major transportation routes. We know we can count on them to be clean and secure. If you're travelling a great distance by car or have brief business interests in an area such as Katy, hotels such as this one are ready to meet your simple needs.
  • Our room was fairly plain and standard. If you've stayed in a La Quinta or a hotel like it, you'll pretty much know what to expect here. Everything was very clean. Lots of room in the entryway leading to the bathroom. The bathroom had strange doors. They were sort of like those folding closet doors.

There was a desk by the window that was sufficient as a work station. The chair wasn't the most comfortable, but it wasn't anything that I would have come close to complaining about at the time. They didn't have wireless internet (or they had it for a fee) so I kept my laptop plugged into their complimentary cable internet. I would have preferred wireless, but again, it wasn't a big deal.

The view is nothing to write home about obviously. It's a highway hotel, I believe our room overlooked the parking lot and the pool. There was some shrubbery directly outside of our window that provided some further privacy.

    Lobby Atmosphere
  • The hotel is standard for a chain-hotel of this type in terms of architecture and condition. Nothing special or out of the ordinary. Everything is in decent condition and clean.

Something that I noted was how few people seemed to be around. Katy is located on the outskirts of Houston; it's basically a suburb of the city. The front desk staff -- who were friendly and efficient when we dealt with them -- were unoccupied most of the time that I was in the lobby area. The parking lot was also mostly empty for the duration of our trip. We were at the hotel on a Friday, during the day while I worked, and we stayed the night. Both Friday and Saturday seemed to be very quiet business days for them. I had to spend an amount of time working and it was nice to be able to complete my work in a quiet environment.

The pool was in good condition and the lack of guests meant we had it to ourselves. We enjoyed a swim in the morning; the hot tub was also lovely and in good condition as well.

    Food Quality
  • The breakfast buffet was great. They had a good variety of standard items: breads, fruits, yogurts, cheeses. They had several hot items, waffles shaped like the state of Texas and pancakes. Their coffee was decent. The quality of the food they offered was fair, and I'd give them points on variety as well.

We happened upon a great little restaurant in the area. At the back of the parking lot there is a service road; if you turn left onto that road and drive through the first majorintersection you come to you will find a Mexican restaurant named Lupe Tortilla on the left side of the road. They have great Mexican food and tasty margaritas. Their staff seemed a little oblivious but it was worth it for the quality of food. They are accomodating of large groups as well.

  • Again, the scenery around this hotel isn't much of anything. The hotel is on the side of a major highway. They have done some work to ensure that their pool-area and courtyard are aesthetically pleasing: some plants and shrubbery. If you're looking to have a great view from your hotel room window, though, this place won't work for you.
